Why would your teacher not want you to play certain concerti? I've never had a problem with selection of music and my teacher's opinions colliding. Is it that you're just not ready for the big stuff, or does he not like the literature. There are plenty of solos out there to play that demonstrate technique, and the wonderful sonorities of the tuba as a solo instrument. Try the Barnes concerto, or the Ewazen. Both easily done, and sound impressive. Good luck
