I had the good fortune to get called in as second tuba on the Corrigliano earlier this year. It's pretty neat, although there is not a whole awful lot for the second tuba to do. (Hey, still get paid the same. . .) As it turned out he won an Oscar the same week that we played the piece. They didn't hire a Contrabass clarinet player, so I got to play that solo. Is that a common way to do it? I know the piece hasn't been around too terribly long, but has anyone else done it this way? By the way I also got to do Fantastique and Rite this year. . . What are the chances of doing three two tuba pieces in one year? Been good for my experience and financial situation, so I'm not complaining. . .
