Any of the museums that have an extensive about of musical instruments (Ford Museum, Smithsonian, Shrine to Music) aren't able to display all of their instruments. Usually they only have a few on display and the rest are in storage. Special arrangements can be made at the Shrine of Music to research the instruments, but it has to be prearranged and they don't let just anyone in. Usually it is just grad students working on thesis papers, or people doing extensive research for articles.
