I'm a semi-serious musician, with infrequent gigs here and there. I recently sold my large horn, and purchased a quintet sized CC horn, since I didn't anticipate playing in any large ensembles. Now the opportunity has arisen for me to play in a fair sized orchestra, and my horn is obviously not the best suited for the task. I'd like to purchase a large horn, but still keep my small CC for quintet, solo, and chamber stuff. The cheaper BATs seem to start at around $6,000 if I'm lucky, my maximum spending price would probably be about $4,000, and that's if I save for a few more months.
My question is this: Is it unreasonable to expect to find a good quality BAT for $4K or under? Does any one have/know someone who has a large CC horn that they're selling in that price range? Thanks in advance for your input.
