Are you planning on performing with civic orchestras,or are you doing the audition circuit? I love my Rudy 43-5 and play it comfortably in quintets, pit orchestras, and a large community band - But it won't be mistaken for a BAT! It is not about volume(I can be LOUD!), but a Rudy has a lyrical sound that may not be what some conductors are looking for in an orchestral tuba. On the other hand, if you are not seeking a position, a Rudy is a joy to play (and hear). :)
