I think it's possible for a tuba player to become a drum major, but as I am in marching band right now I know my band director would frown upon it. I suppose it depends on who your director is, but mine prefers four or five tubas because my band is rather large and that number is necessary. You just have to make the decision with whoever else decides which way you will be more valuable to your band. You could always be section leader!!
