Hi from England,

The worst instrument I played in 4 years on tubas with brass bands, was an
early Boosey & Hawkes Sovreign BB flat with a straight mouthpipe. Not only
was it in the wrong position, the valves were dreadful ( despite much time
in the workshop, the intonation was appalling and the projection non existant.
Most of the problems came from the instrument being to tall !
The bell was so far above your head it was difficult to listen to your own
sounds. Putting it in the case virtually doubled the size of the thing and
the small wheels broke under the weight.
O how we laughed !
Best wishes, Charley Brighton,
Euphonium, B.B.C. Wind Band London.
