Does anyone remember those DEG Caravelle "Commuter Tubas" from the 70's and 80's? Those are the tubas that came with two bells. The case was flat and the 3/4 horn had two detachable bells. A brass one to leave at school (or wherever) and a metallic gold painted fiberglass bell to keep at home. When I entered the University of Florida (1985), they still had some of those around. No one wanted to use them because there were so many nice 186 Mirafones around and frankly the commuter tubas played worse than any of today's student horns.
