A perfect 5th for a fifth valve works very well if the bore is large enough. I set up a Mahillon F tuba that way many years ago and liked it. There is an article about it in the Summer 1981 TUBA Journal. Here are the fingerings for the chromatic scale, going down through the extension register and beyond the pedal note:
4, 24, 5, 234, 125, 235, 1235, 1245, 2345, 12345
The 1245 is an alternate fingering for the pedal note, which can give a smoother sound.
The 235 and the last two are about 20 cents sharp, but not as bad as 24. The rest are very close to correct.
