How funny! By any chance is your horn a Cerveny? I was just talking to Charlie at the tubastore on friday about doing that EXACT conversion to my Piggy. I am convinced that it would work, but Cerveny is not making the large valves anymore, so we would have to get the valve itself from somewhere else. For now, I am just going to get some tubing to give me an extra-extra long 4th valve to give me the low notes on the rare occasions that I need them. My first valve slide is quite mobile, so I can play it like a three valve horn when the special slide is in, and go back to the normal slide on the 99.9% of the time when I don't have to play any low c#'s.
