I like your stance on this one, Leland. My feeling is the "CC or BB flat" thing is not particularly meaningful from a musical point of view. I have owned several tubas over the years including Cervenys, Mirafones, and Meinl-Westons. All of them were CC's. I selected that pitch simply because it enabled me to use trumpet fingerings in bass clef (plus, of course, all the many optional fingerings enabled by four or five valve instruments). I didn't start on tuba, so I never learned BB flat fingerings. I have read that many fine orchestral players around the world use BB flat instruments, even some players here in this country where the CC tuba seems to have become deified. There are some great CC tubas out there, as well as great BB flats. I say "take your pick" and make beautiful music.
