I personally prefer the set up that Larry Minick did for Jim Self (see his website) in which the valve section was placed in the bell section and the f attachment was moved back closer to the tuning slide. This allows the valves to be operated with the left hand. The F attachment is still operated with the left thumb. The biggest advantages with Jim's horn is that you have a full functioning slide. On your set up Joe, you have a nonstandard slide that no "normal" trombone player would find comfortable. If I understand it correctly your slide is back about 2 postions in relation to the bell. Hence, a player like me with shorter arms would probably find it difficult. Also Jim's horn has the ability of playing both the slide and valves at the same time, a type of quadruple independent inline valve set up. Boy does that give a lot of options!
