I am in need of advice. I am currently playing on a school tuba that is one of the worst out there, the main tuning slide isn't long enough, either that or the lead pipe is too short.... no one really knows, on top of that it has something like 15 air leaks only a few of which I can find, also the 1st valve slide is very flat on C's and is VERY sharp on Eb, Ab, and G's, and I can not pull the slide out anymore, it is the same deal on the 4th valve slide and the 3rd, the second is fine besdies an air leak, there are various other problems, at first we thought maybe it was me that was making everything go wrong, but a friend of mine tried it out too, and he agreed with me, what I'm wondering is, would it be easier for the school to buy a new tuba, for me to buy my on tuba (I'm looking at a miraphone 186), or to fix the old one? eventually I will be buying my own, but the band director asked me to look into it. thanks
