Paul Bierly, in addition to his works on the music of J. P. Sousa,
was for many years the tubist with the Columbus (OH) symphony. His
only horn was a giant Martin 4-valve EEFlat. He still plays actively,
and extremely well, in brass bands and quintets- still using the big
Martin.
