All too often, tuba section's members will play out to be heard and sacrifice sound and intonation in the process. Generally the sound, though seemingly louder, simply becomes distorted and cuts through with the beauty of an Oscar Meyer Weinner whistle. Striving for the sound Sean mentioned earlier, as a section, will do wonders for the overall effect, while at the same time reduce the negative comments from many directors. It is amazing how powerful a mf can become when played with the fullest sound and strong attention to intonation. Out of tune and poorly produced sound is ALWAYS to loud.
