hey all you Mahler fans,
Telarc has just released the 7th symphony in their ongoing Mahler cycle from the Atlanta Symphony, Yoel Levi - Conductor. Here's your chance to hear Michael Moore at his tuba best. Check him out at the end of the first movement; in the Scherzo (all of that "spooky" stuff); and at that great low brass spot in the Finale - just before the big fortissimo swat on the tam-tam. It's a totally realistic and gorgeous recording, combined with awesome playing from Atlanta. As far as the conducting goes, I prefere the recent recording with M. Tilson-Thomas/London Symphony O. on RCA - best since either Bernstein I or II (Joe Novatny, and Warren Deck on his old Conn). However, no-one can go wrong with this Telarc one - great playing, great sound! You can also check out Michael Moore on the equally great Mahler 6th from Telarc.
