Dear Dan: I think your instructor is right to advise you to stick with the horn for a while longer. You obviously are using your CC for most of your work. But please try this experiment. Make the present F your principal horn and leave your CC home. See if the sounds you want can't be made to come out of the Yamaha when required by the music. Using the F for only the swift solo work relegates it to a permanent #2 status, whereas many tubists (such as me) use the F for almost everything, and have concentrated upon getting the proper "sounds" from it.
