Over two years ago Sam Pilafian and I were talking and he asked me to write an article for the T.U.B.A. Journal about just such a project. I submitted it to Sam and it is suppose to be published soon, (or so I've been told). I took 20 audition lists from the past 20 years or so and broke it down into three catagories. Those excerpts which are asked 40 to 100 percent of the time, excerpts which are asked 10 to 35 percent of the time and excerpts that have been asked 5 percent or that have only showed up once on one of the twenty auditions. There ended up being 63 works and an average of 18 excerpts per catagory. Having such a list can be extremely useful in what excerpts you should be working on. I use it as a reference with my students and so does Sam.
