If I decided for a new horn, instead of a used one, it is because
going to Czech Rep. I will pay it less than a used horn here in Italy, where
I live, and the price includes the hard case, so I hope I can protect
the tuba from dents.
And I can tell you that in Italy prices for tubas are a factor ~1.5 higher
than in US, so you can figure why I'm going to Prague!

And I want to buy it now because I suspect when Czech rep. will enter the Euro
area the bargains will vanish...

I see that there is no complete agreement on the usefulness of a 5th valve,
so at least my question was not a dumb question ;)

I'll try also the CCB683 and the CCB691, which are smaller,
but I really like a big horn, I will still play my vintage Besson Eb tuba
when marching, and I'm 6'3" so I can manage to hold that tuba, as for
the air needed, well I hope I can get an idea playing it at the shop.
Somebody suggested to consider also the Lidl tuba in Brno, but maybe I won't
have the possibility to try both the Cerveny and the Lidl. The Cerveny dealer
in Prague told me he can bring to the shop several tubas to try, only
if I take at least one. And for that price i can take the risk to
find a decent horn in a bunch of four.

I found the discussion very insighful! thanks
