Yamaha has always called it background brass.
The tuba pictured has a leadpipe that enters the first valve at a 45-degree angle, just like the exit pipe from the fourth valve on the 641. It's an old Alexander design, but used by most of the German tuba shops in the pre-Miraphone days.
