Regrettably, recreational drug use and military service just don't match up very well. Serving as a soldier with an MOS (military occupational specialty) of tuba player (and that's what you'll be; a soldier first, a musician second)you will probably have a pretty rich musical experience. You will also have to meet basic soldier qualifications. Assuming your age to be between 22 and 28 I'd figure you, as an absolute minimum, to run two miles in 16 minutes, do 40 push ups and 50 situps, meet weight standards, and pass the random drug testing program administered....at random. Failure to make the PT or the weight will get you in administrative hot water and may eventually result in discharge- but generally an "honorable" or "general under honorable conditions" discharge- and you'll certainly get a lot of encouragement to help you meet those standards. "Piss hot" and you'll very rapidly find yourself looking up the open end of a potentially very punitive loaded gun. Even the first time can have very severe consequences (for an NCO or up it's frequently the end of your service). A second time and you will almost certainly face discharge and potentially under "general under other than honorable" conditions. This is something which will haunt your steps for years; potentially the rest of your life. This is for use ID'd through the random testing (by and large three times a year per soldier) You don't want to hear what is associated with possession; but it sure isn't good. Smoking dope sure doesn't make you a bad person, but it's simply incompatible with military service. If you don't figure on giving it up you probably ought to look into another line of work.
