I have found that the bowl vs funnel does not necessarily line up by valve-type of instrument. If anything, a funnel-shaped mouthpiece will lessen the resistance on instruments that are not very open, and a bowl-shaped mouthpiece will help focus the sound on a big foghorn of a tuba. I have a large, deep bowl-shaped mouthpiece that I use for most BBb and CC tubas, and a smaller, less-deep bowl-shaped mouthpiece that I use for most Eb and F tubas. Occasionally I come across an instrument that works better with something else, but it is of primary importance that the mouthpiece fit the person.
