One way to avoid spam is to not post your email address online. This is because there are programs known as robots that search the internet for the basic email syntax of xxxx(AT)xxxx.com collecting them for spammers. Using "at" instead of "(AT)" does have an effect for now. There are studies out there that suggest other defenses against spam.
