I also have been impressed with Besson Eb horns, but I never got comfortable with the extra air resistance in the compensating low register (below BBb, down to pedal EEb). That's why I suggested the Willson Eb as perhaps the best "one tuba fits all" horn. I used to play the Besson 983, and quite enjoyed it as a quintet horn. But when playing in orchestra pit gigs (parts written with lots of ledger lines below the staff) it was a lot of extra work. If I could have afforded the Willson, I would most likely have remained an Eb-only player -- possibly forever, as the Willson would probably meet all of my amateur playing needs.
