Ditto the other comments. I really shouldn't have spent so much on my 98, but got it used for two and a quarter. Focus, core, non-wandering pitch, other descriptors but I really love mine. I play it on my Culbertson Neptune with self-pleasing sound. It doesn't seem to work as well, however, on a horn I used to play--the Kalison Daryl Smith. I felt the mouthpiece was too big for the 4/4 size horn. Worked nicely on a Cerveny Piggy, as well.

I'd be curious to try one of the smaller Monettes for upper register playing (e.g., Vaughn Williams or Jacobs' Tuba Suite latter movement.)

I believe one can get a tester/loaner from Monette if you really want to check them out. Otherwise, the used and for sale types are harder to come by.

Check the archives for other discussions about these m'pieces.
