Very hot water will remove lacquer (often by accident). No environmental conscience there but you could burn yourself. You might try 3M "Safer Stripper". You can practially eat that stuff. However, IMHO, the best solution is to NOT strip the silly lacquer off the horn.

I've stripped two, once on purpose, once by accident. It didn't make much difference in how the instrument played, just made my hands green. Owning an unlacquered horn is a pain the rear and it isn't as pretty (and therefore less valuable to your average person when you try to sell it).
