why on earth would anyone in their right mind say "Oh, what the hell, I'll spend an extra $1900 on the exact same product"?? Not to mention the tedious act of breaking in a horn. Buying a used tuba isn't like buying a used car, and buying a tuba "new" from a warehouse store doesn't really make the tuba any "newer" than buying it from a responsible owner.
$1900 is A LOT of money. A 2nd car for the family, 3 mortgage payments, a nice notebook computer, a decend bass tuba, a good bass trombone, a nice euphonium, a doubler string bass, some quality recording equipment, a semester's tuition at a state university, a nice vacation for you and the wife, a generous humanitarian donation, a few years' worth of orchestra subscriptions, a year's worth of tuba lessons, a plasma television... just a few things that $1900 can buy.
but that's just my take on things.
