Try out some horns. Listen to some other players on those horns. Listen to recordings. Who are your favorite players? What are they playing?

I prefer the sound of the Besson 967. I love playing that horn. I also like the sound John Mueller gets on his Meinl 451. I really like the feel of that horn as well, but I have personal intonation issues with that horn. That being said, the jobs are being won by guys who play Willson Euphoniums.

E-mail Don Palmire and ask his advice. He owns a Besson and plays on the Army Band's Willson while on the job.

Bottom line, try them out a few times and pick which one fits you best. That may seem like a cop out to some, but I already told you what horn I like best.
