I don't know how to describe it, but playing was believing for me. I've played the tuba for 25 years and played/tried a lot of mouthpieces. I was skeptical about the Monette "hype" - no more. I can play upper registers unlike I ever could especially on larger horns. My F horn plays in the low register much easier for me as well. Why? There may be some psychology to it (you want it to be better) but - either you can pop out a double C or double Bb or not. It works for me. BUT - everyone is different. I'm sure there are folks who a Monette does nothing for. Expensive, yes, but after the money you spend on your horn, you should have a mouthpiece that really works for you. See if you find one to try.
