My friend, Michel Godard, sent me a copy of his newest CD, "TubaTubaTu" which is a collaboration with Dave Bargeron. I've been a big fan of Michel's playing for a number of years; I think he's one of the most creative musicians on the scene, taking the tuba and serpent to new places.

This new album with Bargeron continues to break great and new ground; joined by Kenwood Dennard on drums and Luciano Biondini on accordian, Godard and Bargeron blend jazz, fusion, funk and world music into an album that holds interest at a high level. Bargeron also plays sackbut on two track sand Godard serpent on two tracks, and Godard's "Murmure" is surely one of the most haunting and interesting pieces I've heard in a long time. I have a few dozen jazz tuba discs. Some are interesting, but none come close, in my mind, to the collaboration between Godard and Bargeron.

It will not be easy to get this recording since it's just been released (on October 23) and I haven't seen it in the USA. But it is available at http://www.amazon.fr ; ordering through that site is easy with your credit card.

While at it, if you like your music off the beaten track and thrilling at the same time, get a copy of Godard's "Castel del Monte." Absolutely superb world music with great playing and singing throughout (Enja ENJ-9362 2). If you visit the amazon.fr site with Godard's discs (URL all on one line, no spaces):

http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=music-fr&field-keywords=Michel%20Godard&bq=1/402-6279234-0019360

you'll see a wide range of superb albums (I have them all). Recommended, for sure.
