Big tuba $350
Small Tuba $200
Big Bb sousaphone for short gigs: $175
Small Bb sousaphone for long gigs: $75
Thrift store tuxedo: $50
Simichrome polish and mini car buffer for fancy gigs: $20
Reliable and easy to set alarm clock: $15
Date book and a huge bag of pencils: $10
Case: $6 expanding spray foam, plastic sheeting, and a big ugly theft resistant box
Valve oil: $4
Roll of black tape for emergency repairs: $1
Mouthpieces: came with horns
Sound quality: free
Intonation: free
Musicianship: priceless (I'd like to buy some more, actually)

But you know what I reeeeally really need? A $1000 magic mouthpiece or maybe even a magic ultra-heavyweight horn (that costs 5 times as much as a normal one) that is supposed to make me louder than the guy next to me so I can show him up during concerts. If my sound sticks out of the ensemble enough, the audience will recognize that I am the best musician there and that's all that matters. So what if the violin hasnt changed in 400 years and can't get any louder. Its their fault for playing such a wimpy instrument!
