Dale, I agree with your statement and conclusions, especially as subsequently expressed in the thread. But I interpreted the original question not as a "how low can you go" sort of competition but rather as a "how low can a four-valve BBb tuba go" technical question. The fellow was having difficulty with certain low notes, and he should have been: Those notes are not easily played on a four-valved tuba without using false tones. He wanted to know if it was him or the tuba.
