that the trombone and tuba in Verdi's time were different than what we know today. What exactly was tuba design in Italy in the 1860's/70's? And if the bottom voice is played on cimbasso, does that mean that the bone section should play trombones similar to those played in Verdi's time, instead of the modern Bach/Edwards/Shires variety?
