One of the toughest things about this piece is that there is a great deal of personal freedom as to interpretation while the composer also lays down the major specifics required by the publisher. You should try the two and see what works for you, or you could consult a recording and see if you can answer your question that way. Either way, the piece should end up being a centerpiece for the concert. Also, don't hesitate to think on the insanely Italian side of things (especially since it was written for one) as far as musicality goes. In a nutshell, that means to exaggerate everything as much as possible. Listen to a bunch of Puccini arias for inspiration at letter P, Scarlatti for letter N, and I would recommend Madame Butterfly (Again Puccini) for the sections B-D. These two have a familiar blend of depression and absolute beauty that I find very amazing.
