In the world of school finance, this settlement is chump change. It would have cost more to defend themselves against this suit, a lot more. The school could have easily checked the logs of the computers in any of it's on campus labs or media centers to see if the site was accessed from a public computer. Along with the copyright and other issues mentioned below, this would have helped their case for suspension. However, you must remember, the constitutional rights of students are not neccessarily altered because they are minors, but because they are students in PUBLIC schools. The lesson here is, know the law, and call the lawyers before you open your mouth or do anything drastic on what could be a potentially volitile issue.
