I can not tell you, why this instrument is not an Alexander but for one reason:

It is an old pre-balls-and-sockets-with-straight-pushrods-era B&S BBb tuba.

What gives it away is the the wrap of the 4th valve tubing and the shape of the base plates for thumbring and lyre holder.

This .pdf file needs you to have a reeder (the free Adobe Acrobat being among them). It is huge (2608K) and loads slowly, but when once loaded it saves to disk very fast. It is only accessible on the usual terms: from one of my open, free, and non-posting Yahoo groups.
