There's a mouthpipe receiver next to the first valve casing. This receiver is under-engineered and is notorious for cracking and for it's brace failing. (Surprized?)

I was actually considering doing "after-manufactured / pre-sale" conversions of new Weril 4-Piston 4/4 model 980 (Yamaha YBB-321 copy) tubas to "convertable". With the extra weight of the 4th valve tubing on the shoulder, I could get kickbacks from chiropractors. (Seriously, I could probably do this conversion in my shop on new Weril model 980 4/4 4V tubas and sell them for the same price as the Yamaha YBB-201M [3V convertable]).
