The concept of a soprano tuba has been discussed here a few times. One of the problems of construction being the placement of a main tuning slide.
Just found a pic of an oval soprano Bb German tenorhorn. But for the oval factor this design in my eyes solves the tech problems of a soprano tuba. The pic is not that great, but it looks like the valve section has been taken wholesale from a German style rotary flugelhorn.
Other uploads:
An anonymous 4 valve flugelhorn. How to empty its 4th slide?
Bhm & Meinl 4 piston non-compensating euphonium.
A Cerveny pig-tail-crook flugelhorn in C and Bb.
A pre-WWI Huller tuba in F, but retuneable toEb.
A Tenorhorn added to the folder with Russian instruments.
A double belled trumpet with integrated mute. And in saxophone shape.
An old BBb tuba from J. Altricher of Frankfurt an der Oder.
A Kuhlo flugelhorn by Ernst David. A special design allowing for a main tuning slide after the valve cluster.
The engraving practises of the Amati/Cerveny/Denak conglomerate have varied over the years. Here a set of pics of an oval Bariton engraved Amati. Today it would have been engraved Cerveny.
The pics are all fairly small and open rather fast. They (together with a few more) can be found in the Photos area of the open, free, and non-posting Yahoo group linked to below.
