Gunther Wand's Bruckner is obviously very good. He's like a Karajan with better sound quality, and equally disciplined playing. His first cycle with the Cologne Radio Symphony was very under-rated. I like the NDR 8th from Lubeck Cathedral, the one that you're talking about, except that one of the trumpets goes terribly flat in the finale few bars of the finale. Maybe that's a small thing, but it drives me nuts. I slightly prefere his Berlin remake, which was the very last recording he made (and his fourth 8th, by the way). His Berlin 4th is fantastic, and is probably better than the Barenboim/CSO one from a purely musical standpoint. Indeed, nobody would go wrong getting Gunther Wand's Bruckner.
