So far everyone has suggested etudes. I think what you want are solos, right? Here are a couple of solos that stay in the mid and low registers:

"Six Studies in English Folk Song", Ralph Vaughan Williams, arr. by Michael Wagner, published by Galaxy.

"Introduction and Dance", J. Ed. Barat, edited by Glenn Smith, published by Southern Music.

I'll think of others if I stew on it long enough.
