I play a Conn 5j on a regular basis. It is too small in my opinion. I get buried in any group over about 35 people. The first slide is out of tune and I have to just about play trombone with it. It is definitely a 3/4 horn. Maybe a little bit big for a 3/4 but I would not even compare it to most 4/4 horns. For the money I think there are much better horns. I would spend the money to get Jupiter 582's. However if size is the issue I would go with the Weril 680 cause there is not much of an advantage of a 5j over one.
