David Mills of the Charlotte Symphony is the local pro. I don't know if Dave still teaches tuba lessons, but he can definately teach you how to play the cimbasso! Actually Dave is a frequent contributer to this BBS, hopefully he will see this.

Also, Tony Granados is one of the top freelancers who subs with all the NC pro symphonies and has a very good studio of students. Tony regularly works with a HS band's brass section outside of Charlotte close to Lake Norman. He also visits this board.

I recommend both Dave and Tony highly. Those are all the ones I know directly in Charlotte. If you are willing to drive a little, Dave Lewis, prin. tuba of the NC Symphony teaches at the NC School of the Arts in Winston, Matt Ransom of the Winston-Salem Symphony and Carolina Brass teaches also in Winston, Dennis Askew at UNCG in Greensboro are a few within a 1 1/2 hour drive.

Good luck in your pursuit. Feel free to email me if you need contact info.

Mark
