I still think it is good for your playing. It helps you learn to play louder with more control. If your tone is bad when you play loud then this is a place you can work on it and to improve it. I played in marching bands for 8 years and felt it made my tone more full and controlled every year. I know your sound is better if the horn isn't moving around but if you learn to play controlled while running around on the field then when you stop and sit down it is easy to play with control. I always thought it was like exercise. Throw a tuba player in the worst possible place and say play loud when needed but with control and make this your goal. Tubas don't have to "blat" as soon as they go outdoors. Again marching band is good for you and you can play with good control on the field if you work at it just like anything else.

My opinion is stick with it and use it to grow.
