I think the band training does have something to do with it ,but also we have a tradition
of players here that have taught that sound.I'm thinking of Harry Barlow,John Fletcher,
Stuart Roebuck,John Jenkins and Patrick Harrild. There have been several pioneering 1st
Trombones too such as Denis Wick,Derek James,Ian Bousfield,Dudley Bright etc who have
required the tuba to match up and support the sound.
I would be interested to know if a British player has ever won an American tuba job??
Is it such a different sound ?
Apparently Chris McShane(BBC Scottish)was at the Boston auditions recently and he has
got a big sound!! I know he didn't get the job but then nobody did - right??!!
