If you play a big instrument, you don't need a huge mouthpiece. I'm a euphonium player, but my observation is that if you plug a PT88 or similar tub mouthpiece into a 5/4 or 6/4 horn this is overkill and you won't be able to control your sound and intonation very well and you will have little hope of havign control at softer dynamics. Notice how 6/4 tubas sound good with a smaller helleberg mouthpiece.
