There's been some interesting comments on the topic and I think it's a good one. Any way you look at it, it's not good for you. You're getting time on your face, but it's mashing your face, playing loud, tensing up.

Everything about warming up on tuba and performing is supposed to be relaxed and comfortable. You get your best sound that way. Where I can really tell is quintet rehearsals. My sound is bad and I can't blend after honking on a sousaphone.

HOWEVER, I'm assuming you're in high school and looking to have fun, and gain some experience. To that, I think marching band is good. If you ever want to teach, you'll have first hand knowledge of technique, drill, and rehearsal structures. That can only be gained through marching. If you want pursue a career in tuba as a professional, don't do it in college and spend those extra 10 hours a week in the practice room.
