I would say yes, for two reasons. First, the type of air and muscle used to get a good sound while marching with a large instrument is not the same as a concert instrument. No matter how smoothly and evenly you play, you are still forcing to some degree, and this may transfer to a concert setting. Second, even if you are being a great musician and trying to blend your sound/style with the group, 99% of the time you are blending with BAD sounds. I believe this is true also with drum corps, as Contras and Concert Tubas do not sound at all alike. I have found that a very high percentage of the drum corps veterans that I have heard play concert instruments sound exactly the same, way too focused sound, no freedom of expression. Just because these groups may stress blend and dynamics doesn't mean that they're teaching musicianship.
