Any government entity has rules against accepting bribes. Band directors are offered "stuff" all the time. It's little stuff, a personal repair free or reduced, an extra box of reeds, or bottle of valve oil, a dinner, nothing major. How many directors have gone on a major trip and not paid for it? when the band members worked real hard on their fundraising projects.

Admittedly, this makes the profession look bad. Conversely, this makes the stores, fund raising companies, and travel agencies look bad as well.

We need to concentrate our efforts not on the bad stuff, but on the good. Band directors are professional musicians just like the players and we need to remember that fact. They are the first ones, usually, that started YOU. They teach, not because of the high salaries or the great perks, because they love to work with kids.
