I think you are incorrect about the insurance company paying for the loss even though the coverage has been cancelled. Point is, the insurance was in effect at the time of the loss. Therefore, the insurance company is required to pay whatever the policy states. Yes, insurance companies do often cancel policies or raise rates after a loss, but they still must stand good for the loss.
