I like to get kids ot eventually go to the large bore tenor trombone, if it the only trombone they will play. The bach 42B, conn 88H, and others with the .547 bore fit this bill. They are useful in the area of being bigger than the pea shooters for a fuller sound, close to the bass bore for the occasional bass gig, yet not so big that you can have a decent high range without a stuffy sound.

An idea might be to get the large bore f-attachment tenor, and keep the king for real high playing ease.

If price becomes an issue, I know of some bach 36 and 42 open wrap rebuilds that one of the "Mid South" posters has. He has done some excellent work on two or three I have played on, both in his shop and in the hands of others in the local area. I will also dare to say that blessing had a good copy of the conn 88H at one time.

Hope this helps.

Tom
